Limited Connectivity
Most prepaid SIMs do not work inside Spiti. Kaza has limited BSNL/postpaid signal and the only ATM in the valley, which can run dry. You travel partly offline — part of the appeal.

How to Reach Spiti in Winter
Getting to Winter Spiti
By Road (Winter Route)
The reliable winter route is Shimla → Narkanda → Kalpa → Chitkul → Tabo → Kaza. Our package includes an overnight Volvo from Delhi to Shimla and a 4x4 SUV from there.
By Air
The nearest winter airport is Chandigarh (~6–7 hours from Shimla). From Chandigarh you can drive or take a bus to Shimla to join the circuit.
By Rail
The nearest broad-gauge station is Chandigarh. From there, a Volvo or taxi to Shimla is the usual first leg.
Manali Route (Usually Closed)
The Manali–Rohtang–Kunzum–Kaza road is normally closed in winter due to heavy snow. Do not plan a winter Spiti trip via Manali without confirming the pass is open.

Roads Can Close Without Warning
Heavy snowfall can close the Sangla–Chitkul or Tabo–Kaza stretches for hours or days. Itineraries are adjusted on the ground for safety — flexibility is part of the trip.
Carry Enough Cash
The only ATM in Spiti is in Kaza and it can run out of cash in winter. Withdraw cash in Shimla or Rampur before entering the valley.
Connectivity Is Limited
Most prepaid non-BSNL SIMs do not work inside Spiti. Inform family you may be offline for a couple of days and share your itinerary before you enter the valley.
Book Heated Stays in Advance
Very few homestays and hotels stay open through winter. Fixed-departure packages pre-book heated stays — if travelling independently, confirm heating before you go.
